And how better to see fish and other creatures of the sea than on a boat?
For years I wrote bimonthly letters to my Pop in an effort to entertain him and keep him up-to-date with my life and all the shenanigans in my backyard. When he died suddenly in April, the hole in my life was huge. Still is. These posts keep him very present to me, and who knows, maybe they still find him through the ether.

21 August 2014 - Urban Beastiary - Sea Life
Next to the gargoyles, the sea life category was wonderful. Come along now, check out my watery friends. The walrus definitely rated up in the top 10.

18 August 2014 - Urban Beastiary, Part Deux. Gargoyles and Birds
The tour of the urban zoo today moves to the realm of the mystical. Gargoyles and mythological creatures are featured first. Did I mention gargoyles are one of my favorite things?
The first three are from the Orpheum Theatre. The building is so covered in decorative ornaments that it looks like a giant wedding cake--breathtaking.
Next up are a couple from the Grace Cathedral.
Other guardians were just tucked into corners of the city.
Continuing on the tour, we now head for the aviary. There are more eagles here than any other bird. That's just fine. I am always rapt about raptors.
So magnificent! And low enough that I could actually get some of the line.
